Alan Robinson, BVSc, MRCVS, DMS, director of VetDynamics UK Ltd, says that many veterinarians have always imagined themselves working in veterinary medicine, but not in the veterinary business. This results in a trap that Robinson calls the “hard work quadrant,” where a veterinarian has a successful veterinary career, but he or she is also doing the accounting, changing the lightbulbs and showing up on Sundays if the office needs cleaning.

Veterinarians need to move past this phase and grow their practice to where they can comfortably delegate responsibilities and run a prosperous business while still maintaining their success in veterinary medicine.
