Mike Dicks, PhD, previous director of veterinary economics for the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), explains that revenue distribution varies among veterinary practices because the profession itself is so diverse. 

However, Dr. Dicks says the AVMA is working to construct key performance indicators (KPIs) that can be adjusted based on location, practice size and specialty. These will provide veterinary practices across the country with the ability to compare themselves to other professionals and pinpoint differences in their practice that are causing differentials.
