Data analysts from Care.com, a company that helps families find care for children, seniors, pets, and other groups, created a ranking based on which states have the healthiest pets.

The analysts ranked each state across 4 different categories: illness, access to veterinary care, healthy environment, and total pet spend. Only data from cats and dogs were used for analysis. States that ranked highest in pet health had a lower prevalence of pet illness, higher access to veterinary care, healthier environments, and higher pet-related spending.

Are you practicing in a place that makes it easy to keep pets happy and healthy? Here are the 10 states with the healthiest pets.

  1. Montana
  2. Nebraska
  3. Colorado
  4. New Mexico
  5. Idaho
  6. New Hampshire
  7. South Dakota
  8. Wyoming
  9. Kansas
  10. North Dakota

Interestingly, 3 of the top 10 healthiest states for pets also ranked among the top 10 states for human health and well-being, as determined by Gallup and Healthways. Those states include Montana (#8), Colorado (#5), and South Dakota (#3).

On the flip side, the 5 unhealthiest states for pets were Arkansas, South Carolina, Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi.
