It is hard to predict exactly what combination of elements will spark internet fame, but if you pair an adorable yet sad-looking dog with a singing, kind-hearted veterinarian, you may just strike gold. That is exactly what happened to Ross Henderson, BVM&S, MRCVS, from Fox Hollow Animal Hospital in Littleton, Colorado.

In April 2017, the young veterinarian achieved internet stardom when a video began circulating of him playing the guitar and singing Elvis Presley’s “I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You” to a golden retriever patient that was curled up on his lap while awaiting surgery. The 55-second clip quickly went viral, amassing more than 850,000 views, 1300 comments, and nearly 10,000 shares on the Fox Hollow’s Facebook page. It was also shared widely on social media platforms through other accounts and eventually ended up as a segment on the Today show.

Dr. Henderson was not limited to a one-time performance. Other videos can be found online, including one of him crooning to a relaxed, long-haired gray cat that shoots the veterinarian a telling look every time he stops playing the guitar. Dr. Henderson believes the music, and the individual attention, helps the animals feel calmer while they are at the unfamiliar hospital.

Now, the 30-year-old veterinarian is making the jump from internet sensation to TV star with a new show on Animal Planet. As can be seen in the show’s promotional video, the series will follow Dr. Henderson, his father Anthony Henderson, DVM, MVB, MRCVS, and brother Ryan Henderson, DVM, MS, all of whom work at the family-run veterinary practice. The trio can be seen caring for and cuddling with their 4-legged patients as well as indulging in a few family-friendly antics, including goat yoga and racing drones throughout the clinic.

“Being a veterinarian is super exciting and equally absolutely terrifying,” Ross explained in the clip. “Working with family actually makes it so much more than just a job, it makes it exciting and something you can hold closer to the heart. It’s like forever bring your son to work day.”

Hanging With the Hendersons premiers on Animal Planet this Friday, January 11.
