When the merger between Mars Inc., which owns Banfield Pet Hospitals, and VCA Animal Hospitals happened a little over a year ago, veterinary practices were concerned about what this partnership would mean for their businesses. Amanda Landis-Hanna, DVM, senior manager of veterinary outreach for PetSmart Charities, says thankfully, some of that nervousness and concern has been quelled.

She says VCA practices have been largely untouched, utilizing the same methods and doctors from before the merger. VCA and Banfield have also largely maintained their current stature within the veterinary space, and will continue to grow accordingly. Smaller animal practices have realized that they have not been as directly impacted as they had feared, Dr. Landis-Hanna continues, and those fears have subsided.
