As a working mother, does your state offer you enough support?

Although veterinarian tops the list of women-dominated jobs, there are still various roadblocks in the way for female professionals — especially working mothers.

There are several indicators that a state is especially supportive of working mothers: living wage laws, paid family leave, subsidized daycare, affordable health care, etc. But state and local governments greatly differ when it comes to what they offer — some put working mothers first while others seem to consider them as an afterthought.

With the mindset that women should never have to choose between having a career and raising a family, Wallethub compiled a list of the best states for working moms. Analysts compared state dynamics across 15 key metrics in three key dimensions: child care, work-life balance and professional opportunities. The latter took into consideration the gender pay gap and the ratio of female-to-male executives.
